The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 rack server just happens to be one of HPE’s best selling servers, and as HP place it that the “data centre benchmark”. This server supports the latest technology and excels in common business solutions and mission-critical applications. New technologies comprise 25GbE and support for HPE’s Persistent Memory. HPE’s NVDIMMs are optimised for the ProLiant series servers and offer enhanced functionality for databases and analytic workloads.

A maximum of 2 Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 or Intel E5-2600 v3 household processors can be set up on the DL380 Gen9. Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors supply a 23% gain in performance within E5-2600 v3 processors.

The ProLiant DL380 Gen9 supports around 24 HPE DDR4 SmartMemory modules. Outfitted with 128GB of all DDR4 LRDIMM modules in all 24 slots adds up to an impressive 3TB of memory card! Employing HPE SmartMemory, Administrators can anticipate an increase in performance of 21% over non-HP vetted memory modules. The DL380 G9 can also be among the first ProLiant servers to encourage HPE Persistent Memory offering data and performance resiliency, but less memory at 128GB utilising 8GB modules in 16 slots. Registered DIMMs are also supported but will just provide around 768GB using 32GB modules. Performance speeds of 2400MHz are supported but have to be paired with a compatible v4 processor.
Hp Proliant Dl380 Gen9 Server
The HPE DL380 G9 includes a completely redesigned chassis comprising Universal Media Bay configurations to support 8 to 24 SFF and also 4 or 12 LFF drive options. NVMe options are also available along with rear drive support for additional storage and resiliency. There’s an embedded SATA HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i Controller for Boot, data, and media. Administrators can also select from several Smart SAS HBA Controllers for 12Gb/s access rates.

HPE Xeon says this is the planet’s best-selling server, and with all the performance, agility, and endurance demonstrated by the DL380 Gen9 server, we’re inclined to consider them. The hottest Intel Xeon processors,LGA 775,NVDIMM options, and a brand new Universal Media Bay Configuration with back drive assistance give administrators choices when configuring this highly scalable server. This server is a jack-of-all-trades and can run anything from the simplest to mission-critical software.

has been rock solid since we first installed it. Running this unit as a hyper-V host and it holds up very well to the multiple VMs running on it.
    What are the pros?
This unit has a solid base capability. and can be expanded with other great HP products easily.
    What are the cons?
cost of the expansion components can get a little high depending on your needs.

    Pretty solid product
I’ve worked with a few of these as VMware hosts running ESXi 5 and 6. Overall a great workhorse with plenty of storage and throughput for almost any environment.

    Nice storage for small footprint
Recently bought one about 3 months ago for new VMWare host where I needed lots of storage. Added some options and currently running 24 drives in the host. Later this year, I will be replacing another host with the same model.

This review is part of an HPE sweepstakes.
    What are the pros?
    Tons of storage options
    What are the cons?
    Not any right now.

    Masters in Performance and Functionality
This review is part of an HPE sweepstakes

I work with every variety of server manufacture out there as an MSP. Dell, Cisco, HPE, IBM, Lenovo. But between the ILo4 features, ONE View and the always rock solid HPE support, I prefer our sales guys to push out HPE. The DL380 is our go to system from the SMB world to the full scale enterprise.
    What are the pros?
Ilo, OneView, awesome HPE Support, Premade ISO for EXSI deployments
    What are the cons?
The only thing I could complain about is price point. It can be higher entry cost compared to other manufactures, but really, you get what you pay for

A product to take you above the trees
If you want a tool that you can use in every way possible, this be it! Just recommend don’t use it as a bench, unless that bench means to test out software.
    What are the pros?
Great speed, flexibility and all around purpose.
    What are the cons?
So far have not found anything but positives, must have hidden the bad stuff somewhere where I have not looked yet.

    Rock solid server, needs docs
HPE hardware is as solid as it gets. Need to get docs online. This review is part of an HPE sweepstakes.
    What are the pros?
HPE hardware just works. I have used it for years and seen it work reliably in miserable conditions, such as a dank, dusty rock-walled basement with a laundry in proximity to it. (I.e., the server I am replacing with a DL380 Gen 9). This hardware looks to be more of the same. Hardware setup was a dream, adding memory and drives. Basic configuration was straightforward. Once Windows Server 2016 was installed everything came up without a hitch. Performance of the host OS is terrific. I am setting up to VMs now, but expect no glitches whatsoever. Their support in the past has been noteworthy, too, and again I expect no less this go-around.
    What are the cons?
In box basic documentation was totally lacking. In particular using iLO and some of the system level setup should be explained. Finding the right documentation online is possible, but took some searching and even then there are still bits and pieces I don’t know about. Nothing to hinder my work, but it would be nice to know what the features are. I didn’t ding the rating for this, but if it were a bit more granular, I would probably give 4 3/4 stars based on this lack.

    Solid Reliable server
This review is part of an HPE sweepstakes.

We were a complete IBM xseries shop but we could not resist the price so purchased a Proliant DL380 Gen9. I love the ability to add more resources as needed. Starts as a very nice server with great potential.
    What are the pros?
    Price point
    Ease of use
Reliable – 4 years going strong without issues
    What are the cons?
I can no think of any
